Correction: Coast Guard suspends search for man, 63, near Oxford, Md.

November 10, 2015

*The original releases stated Ingvard Edward Aasvik as being 64-years-old, and this release has been corrected to 63-years-old.

BALTIMORE — The Coast Guard suspended its search Tuesday for a 63-year-old man believed to have entered the water in the Choptank River near Oxford.

Missing is Ingvard Edward Aasvik.

Coast Guard Sector Baltimore watchstanders received a report Monday at approximately 8:30 p.m. from Maryland Natural Resources Police personnel of a boat washing up on shore.

The search for Aasvik included Coast Guard 29-foot Response Boat-Small crews from Station Oxford and a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium from Station Annapolis, an MH-65 Jayhawk Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Atlantic City, New Jersey, as well as crews from MNRP, and Dorchester County Fire. Coast Guard crews searched approximately 14.5 hours and covered more than 66 square nautical miles.

"After more than 14 hours of cumulative search efforts by the Coast Guard and MNRP, the Coast Guard made the difficult decision to suspend the search," said Cmdr. Michael Keane, chief of response at Coast Guard Sector Baltimore. "This decision is never an easy one, and our thoughts are with Aasvik's family."
