CORRECTION: Two people found deceased following downed airplane near Port Everglades, Coast Guard suspends search

MIAMI — Two people were found deceased Saturday following a plane crash approximately one and a half miles south of Port Everglades.

Watchstanders with Coast Guard Sector Miami received a call from the Broward County Sheriff's Office at approximately 10 a.m. Saturday, reporting a down Cessna airplane roughly four miles south of Port Everglades with an unknown number of people on board.

Sector Miami watchstanders launched two Station Fort Lauderdale Response Boat Medium boatcrews to assist with the search.

At approximately 11 a.m. Saturday a Broward Sheriff's Office Air Rescue helicopter located plane wreckage and two people roughly one and a half miles south of Port Everglades. The two people were transferred to Station Fort Lauderdale and pronounced deceased. The Coast Guard suspended the search at approximately 1:45 p.m. after confirming that there weren't more passengers aboard the plane. A Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin Helicopter crew, the Broward County Sheriff's Office, the Broward County Sheriff's Office Department of Fire and Rescue, U.S. Customs and Border Protection Air and Marine units, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, the Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Department and Seatow also assisted with the search.
