Detroit Coast Guard participating in multi-agency area maritime security exercise

DETROIT — Detroit Coast Guard members are participating in a Southeast Michigan Area Maritime Security Committee multi-agency table-top exercise Wednesday at the Detroit Fire Department Regional Training Center.

The purpose of this exercise is to test plans and policies of federal, provincial, state, and local area agencies in response to a transportation security incident.

In accordance with the Homeland Security Exercise and Evaluation Program, a table-top exercise is a discussion based exercise. There will not be any resources deployed directly as a result of this exercise.

More than 150 participants from 50 agencies are expected to participate in the exercise. 

Participating agencies include: City of Detroit Fire, Police, and Homeland Security Emergency Management Departments, Michigan State Police, Detroit Medical Center, Region 2 South Healthcare Coalition, Detroit Wayne County Port Authority, Detroit International Bridge Company, Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon, DTE Energy, MGM Grand Detroit, Greektown Casino Rock Gaming, Renaissance Center Security, Motor City Casino, Detroit-Windsor Truck Ferry, Inc., American Red Cross, The Salvation Army, Essexville Fire Department, Wayne County Sheriff’s Office, Wayne County Homeland Security Emergency Management, Michigan Department of Natural Resources and Environment, Michigan Army National Guard, Canada Border Services Agency, Canadian Coast Guard, Essex County, Ontario Provincial Police, Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Windsor Port Authority, Transport Canada, Windsor Fire & Rescue Services, The Salvation Army Canada, U. S. Customs and Border Protection, Federal Bureau of Investigation, Transportation Security Administration, NOAA National Weather Service, U. S. Attorney’s Office, U. S. Army Corps of Engineers, and U. S. Immigration & Customs Enforcement. The exercise is sponsored by U. S. Coast Guard Sector Detroit.

The exercise scenario will focus on the prevention, response, and recovery of simulated attacks on the Detroit Free Press/Talmer Bank Marathon, and will allow all participating agencies to test their security plans during an incident of this nature.
