PORTSMOUTH, Virginia — The Coast Guard will officially designate Elizabeth City, North Carolina, as an official Coast Guard City Friday during an official ceremony scheduled for 1 p.m. at the Museum of the Albemarle.
Adm. Paul Zukunft, the 25th commandant of the Coast Guard, will preside over the event, which will be held on the front lawn of the museum.
A Coast Guard City is a designation awarded to select cities that made special efforts to acknowledge the professional work of the Coast Guard men and women assigned to their area. Making Coast Guard men and women and their families feel at home is an invaluable contribution to morale and service excellence.
