Grand Haven, Mich., Coast Guard resumes operations following morning bomb threat

February 8, 2015

CLEVELAND — Coast Guard personnel at Station Grand Haven and Sector Field Office Grand Haven have resumed operations following a bomb threat Sunday morning.

No Coast Guard members were injured during the incident and no explosive devices were found.

Both units were evacuated following a telephoned bomb threat and a man driving a truck through Station Grand Haven's security gate.

Crews at adjoining units were prepared to respond to search and rescue emergencies in Station Grand Haven's response area while personnel were evacuated, and Station Grand Haven has now resumed full operations.

"The station has an in-place bomb threat procedure and the crew acted appropriately and assured the safe evacuation of all aboard," said Senior Chief Petty Officer Justin Olson, the officer-in-charge at Station Grand Haven. "We would like to thank the Grand Haven Department of Public Safety and our other partner agencies for their assistance and quick response to the incident."

The Coast Guard will continue to work closely with investigating agencies.
