SEATTLE — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a woman from a beach on the Quinault Indian Reservation after the woman reportedly showed symptoms of a heart attack, Wednesday afternoon.
The woman was transferred to awaiting emergency medical services at Hoquiam Bowerman Airport, at the Port of Grays Harbor, and her condition is unknown at this time.
A watchstander at Coast Guard Sector Columbia River, in Warrenton, Oregon, received a request for assistance to medevac a 59-year-old woman reportedly suffering symptoms of a heart attack at about 1 p.m.. The woman reportedly climbed down a bluff via rope to Point Grenville Beach prior to the symptoms hitting. A Coast Guard aircrew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter, from Air Station Astoria, Oregon, landed on the beach at about 2 p.m., and assisted local emergency medical services in loading the woman onto the helicopter. EMS personnel also boarded the helicopter to continue treatment while in flight to the airport.
"The Coast Guard is grateful for the opportunity to assist our first responder brethren in saving a life," said Petty Officer 1st Class Richard Godsey, operation unit watchstander at Sector Columbia River. "We hope for a quick recovery for the victim and her family during this holiday season."
