SEATTLE — Coast Guard, Washington Department of Ecology and Seattle Fire Department personnel are responding to pollution caused by a fire at Boat World Marina on Lake Union near Seattle, Monday morning.

Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound personnel opened the Oil Spill Liability Trust Fund and contracted National Response Corporation to clean up any spilled product.

Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound were notified by Seattle 911 dispatchers at about 1:15 a.m. of a fire involving multiple vessels at the Boat World Marina. Seattle Fire Department personnel reported several boats and nearby structures were damaged by fire.

National Response Corporation personal are on scene with containment boom and are engaged in cleaning any spilled products.

“We have responders on scene to monitor the situation and cleanup efforts,” said Capt. Joe Raymond, commander of Coast Guard Sector Puget Sound.   “Our goal is to mitigate any environmental damage through a collaborative effort with our agency partners, cleanup personnel and the facility.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation by the Seattle Fire Department.
