Kiln, Mississippi-based Coast Guard unit deploys to Guantanamo Bay

NEW ORLEANS -- Seventy-four members of the Kiln, Mississippi-based Coast Guard Port Security Unit 308 have deployed to Guantanamo Bay, Cuba to support Operation Enduring Freedom, Monday. Members of PSU 308 will be working to maintain a continuous maritime force protection presence in the Naval Defensive Sea Area of Guantanamo Bay. The unit will directly support the commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo. "For two years we’ve been preparing for this moment and this time," said Cmdr. Ronzelle Green, commanding officer, PSU 308. Their duties will include patrolling the waters in and around military facilities, as well as working and training alongside other branches of the military for up to one year.

“We look forward to working with our JTF counterparts for mission success,” said Green.

PSU 308 is an all reserve unit designed to be ready to deploy anywhere in the world in 96 hours to support a maritime security mission. In the past, PSU 308 has deployed to Bahrain, Port of Ash Shuiaba, Kuwait and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.
