Media Advisory: Coast Guard Cutter Midgett to hold change-of-command ceremony

SEATTLE — The crew of Coast Guard Cutter Midgett is scheduled to hold a change-of-command ceremony Thursday at Coast Guard Base Seattle, located at Pier 36, 1519 Alaskan Way South, Seattle.Capt. Brendan McPherson will transfer command to Capt. Teri Jordan during the ceremony, presided over by Vice Adm. Charles Ray, commander of Coast Guard Pacific Area.McPherson has been the commanding officer of Midgett since June 2014 and will be transferring to the Coast Guard 13th District to serve as the chief of staff. The cutter sailed on four deployments during his tenure as commanding officer, including three counter-narcotics patrols that resulted in the seizure of nearly 8 tons of cocaine and 2,400 pounds of marijuana and the detention of 28 suspected drug smugglers.As the 13th District chief of staff, McPherson will provide operational and administrative support to the district commander, oversee district staff in Washington, Oregon, Idaho and Montana and serve as area commander in absence of the district admiral.Jordan is reporting from Joint Task Force East in Portsmouth, Virginia, where she served as the support section chief. Her past afloat assignments include Coast Guard Cutter Firebush and Coast Guard Cutter Eagle.The change-of-command ceremony is a longstanding tradition deeply rooted in Coast Guard and naval history. The event signifies a total transfer of responsibility, authority and accountability for the command.
