WASHINGTON — The U.S. Coast Guard will host an eight-nation Arctic Coast Guard Forum Principals Meeting June 7-10, 2016, at Coast Guard Sector Boston in Boston.
The Arctic Coast Guard Forum is an operationally-focused, consensus based organization with the purpose of leveraging collective resources to progressively foster safe, secure and environmentally-responsible maritime activity in the Arctic.
The heads of the coast guards of Canada, Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway, Sweden, the Russian Federation and the United States will meet to advance the goals of the forum through a signing of a joint statement.
WHO: Adm. Paul Zukunft, United States; Deputy Commissioner Mario Pelletier, Canada; Lt. Gen. Jaako Kaukanen, Finland; Maj. Gen. Kim Jesper Jørgensen, Denmark; Rear Adm. Georg Kr. Lárusson, Iceland; Commodore Sverre Engeness, Norway; Rear Adm. Dan Thorell, Sweden; and Vice Adm. Alexsey Volskiy, Russian Federation.
WHAT: The heads of the eight Arctic nations' coast guards will sign a joint statement that establishes the frameworks that detail the development of a multi-year strategic plan, avenues to share information, highlight best practices, identify training exercises, and on-the-water combined operations to achieve safe, secure and environmentally-responsible maritime activity in the Arctic. Media are invited to attend the signing ceremony. Video and still photography will be permitted.
