WHO: Survivors of Dec. 20 capsized vessel incident on Potomac River
WHAT: Reunion with Coast Guard, Maryland State Police, Maryland Natural Resources Police and Saint Mary's County responders WHEN: Wednesday, Dec. 30 at 11 a.m. WHERE: Coast Guard Station Annapolis, 3425 Thomas Point Road, Annapolis, MD 21403 BALTIMORE — The survivors of a capsized vessel incident on the Potomac River are scheduled to be reunited Wednesday with Coast Guard and partner agency personnel who rescued them Dec. 20. Brad Stemcosky and Charlie Frend, both of whom are experienced boaters, got caught in inclement weather, resulting in their boat taking on water and capsizing.
Stemcosky and Frend were rescued through a combined effort. Watchstanders from Coast Guard Sector Baltimore's command center received the initial mayday calls and they dispatched a Maryland State Police aviation unit, a boat crew from Coast Guard Station St. Inigoes and a boat crew from the St. Mary's County Fire Department.
The Coast Guard watchstanders vectored in the Maryland State Police helicopter crew, who located the survivors, and they directed the boat crew from St. Mary's County Fire Department on scene to rescue the men.
Stemcosky and Frend will be present at Station Annapolis to meet with crewmembers and watchstanders involved in their rescue. Directions: Heading East on US-50 take exit 22 onto MD-665E. Follow MD-665E, which will turn into Forest Drive. Make the right immediately after the Annapolis Neck Fire Department house onto Arundel on the Bay Road/Thomas Point Road. Sign on corner points to U.S. Coast Guard Annapolis Station. Bear right at Y intersection, approximately 1.5 miles from fire house. The station will be approximately half a mile from Y intersection on the left.
