BOSTON — Coast Guard Cutter Seneca is scheduled to hold a change of command ceremony Friday at Coast Guard Base Boston.

WHO: Cmdr. Alan McCabe will be relieving Cmdr. Jason Brennell as the commanding officer of Coast Guard Cutter Seneca.

WHEN: Friday, August 12 at 10 a.m.

WHERE: Coast Guard Base Boston, 427 Commercial Street, Boston, MA 02109

The change of command ceremony is a time-honored military tradition. It is a formal ritual conducted before the assembled company of the command. It conveys to officers and enlisted personnel of the cutter that although the authority of command is relinquished by one person and assumed by another, it is still maintained without interruption.

Coast Guard Cutter Seneca is a 270-foot Famous Class Cutter with a crew of approximately 100 Coast Guard members. Seneca was commissioned in 1987. Nearing its 30th year of service, Seneca and the other medium endurance cutters are slated for replacement by the new Offshore Patrol Cutter.

Media interested in attending the ceremony are requested to RSVP to First District Public Affairs at 617-717-9609 by 4 p.m. Thursday.
