MEDIA AVAILABILITY: Ride into Salem aboard Coast Guard Barque Eagle

BOSTON — The U.S. Coast Guard Barque Eagle is scheduled to arrive in Salem Friday and has limited availability for media members to ride the three-masted tall ship into port.

To reserve space, interested media are advised to contact Petty Officer 2nd Class LaNola Stone at lanola.k.stone@uscg.mil no later than noon Wednesday.

Press will meet at the Cruise Terminal on 10 Blaney Street, in Salem, no later than 8 a.m. Transportation from the terminal to Eagle is being coordinated by Coast Guard Sector Boston and lifejackets will be provided.  

It's estimated Barque Eagle will be moored at the Cruise Terminal at approximately 10 a.m.

Eagle will also be open for free public tours at the Salem Cruise Terminal on 10 Blaney Street for the following dates and times:

July 29, 1 to 7 p.m.

July 30, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

July 31, 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.

At 295-feet in length, the Eagle is the largest tall ship flying the stars and stripes and the only active square-rigger in U.S. government service.Constructed in 1936 by the Blohm and Voss Shipyard in Hamburg, Germany, and originally commissioned as the Horst Wessel by the German Navy, the Eagle was a war reparation following World War II.To follow the Eagle’s summer cruise, visit the ship’s Facebook page at www.facebook.com/CoastGuardCutterEagle
