CHARLESTON, S.C. – U.S. Coast Guard crews rescued two boaters Sunday after their boat grounded on St. Phillips Island Sound, Georgia.
A Coast Guard MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Savannah, Georgia, located and rescued the boaters.
Coast Guard Sector Charleston Command Center watch standers received notification from Beaufort County Marine Rescue at 6 p.m. Saturday that two boaters grounded their vessel. The Coast Guard helicopter crew launched and located the vessel, but the boaters denied rescue due to wanting to try and salvage the vessel at high tide. The Coast Guard was later contacted when the boaters could not recover the vessel. The two boaters were hoisted at 6:45 a.m. Sunday and taken to Beaufort County Airfield.
The boaters were reported to be in good condition.
