NEW YORK — Cast Guard Cutter Eagle sailed into New York Harbor on Aug. 4, 2016, to celebrate the 226th birthday of the service.
Cast members from the Broadway musical Hamilton were also aboard for the journey. The musical is a centered around Alexander Hamilton, who founded the Coast Guard in 1790.
The Eagle was constructed in 1936 and was acquired from Germany as a war reparation following World War II. It is the only commissioned sailing vessel in the Coast Guard and is primarily used to train cadets from the Coast Guard Academy.
