Photo Release: Coast Guard Cutter Healy holds change-of-command ceremony in Seattle

Hamilton is reporting to the Healy from his prior position as staff judge advocate at the Coast Guard District 13 office.

Vice Adm. Charles Ray, the Coast Guard Pacific Area commander, presents Capt. John Reeves, former commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy, with the Meritorious Service Medal for his service aboard the Healy, during a change-of-command ceremony in Seattle, June 3, 2015.

Reeves took command of the Healy in 2011 and is retiring to Washington State.

Capt. Jason Hamilton departs, as the new commanding officer of the Coast Guard Cutter Healy, at the end of a change-of-command ceremony in Seattle, June 3, 2015.

The ceremony is a military tradition, conducted in front of the unit’s crew, that formally signifies the transfer of responsibility and authority from an outgoing commander to an incoming one.
