Kodiak City Fire Department Chief Jim Mullican discusses the severity of a wildfire near Chiniak, Alaska, with Petty Officer 2nd Class Jamie Flood, an Air Station Kodiak aviation electronics technician, Aug. 28, 2015.  

The Coast Guard helicopter crew conducted an overflight with Mullican so he could assess the status of the wildfire.

A Coast Guard Air Station Kodiak aircrew conducts an overflight with Kodiak City Fire Department Chief Jim Mullican of a wildfire in Chiniak on Kodiak Island, Alaska, Aug. 28, 2015.  

Coast Guard aircrews often assist local agency partners with aerial support to help responders get a better understanding of an ongoing incident.

The overflight helped responders assess the damages caused by the fire and determine it's present state.
