Search underway for missing diver near Makaha Beach Park

HONOLULU – The Coast Guard and Honolulu Fire Department are searching for a missing scuba diver near Makaha Beach Park, Oahu, Tuesday.

Watchstanders at Sector Honolulu Command Center received notification from one of the divers reporting an overdue 50-year-old male last seen at 8:15 p.m. approximately one mile off Makaha Beach Park.

Watchstanders launched an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point. A 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Honolulu, and Coast Guard Cutter Kittiwake, an 87-foot coastal patrol boat homeported in Honolulu, also launched to assist with the search. Also participating in the search are one Honolulu Fire Department dive boat and one jet ski.

HFD established a command post at Keaau Beach Park.

The missing diver, identified as JJ Jackson, was last seen wearing a black full wetsuit and scuba gear.
