Thomas Friedman to address CGA Corps of Cadets as the 2015 Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellow

February 13, 2015

NEW LONDON, Conn.—Mr. Thomas Friedman, internationally known author and journalist, is scheduled to speak at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy Feb. 23 as the 2015 Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellow. Friedman will address the corps of cadets in Leamy Hall Auditorium at 7:30 p.m. in an event that is open to the public.

Friedman has won the Pulitzer Prize three times for his work at The New York Times. His foreign affairs column in The New York Times appears twice a week reporting on U.S. domestic politics and foreign policy, Middle East conflicts, international economics, environment, biodiversity and energy. He is also the author of six bestselling books, including The World Is Flat: A Brief History of the Twenty-first Century.

The purpose of the Coast Guard Foundation Hedrick Fellow program is to bring world-renowned political, military, and industry leaders to the Academy to share their knowledge and insight with cadets and faculty, and provide an opportunity for the Coast Guard’s future leaders to learn from the experiences of America's most distinguished leaders. Past fellows include former Presidents George H. W. Bush, Jimmy Carter, and Gerald Ford.
