Two rescued from disabled trimaran taking on water near Honokohau, Hawai'i

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard rescued two people aboard an 18-foot trimaran that was disabled and taking on water in the vicinity of Honokohau Harbor, Hawai'i', Saturday.

While patrolling in the area, crewmembers from Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Team Honolulu 91107 received notification approximately 11:30 a.m., from a good Samaritan that a trimaran with two persons aboard was disabled and taking on water and in need of assistance.MSST 91107 diverted to the scene in a Coast Guard 25-foot Response Boat-Small. Once on scene at 11:44 a.m., the RBS located the partially submerged trimaran. They successfully took the vessel in side tow and transported it safely back to Honokohau Harbor.

MSST 91107 was in the area enforcing Operation Dry Water, an annual national campaign to raise awareness about the dangers of boating under the influence.
