NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard continues to assist as needed in the Baton Rouge, Louisiana, area flooding response Sunday.
An MH-65 dolphin helicopter aircrew from Air Station New Orleans departed after dawn to assist with search and rescue operations. Additionally, a new MH-60 Jawhawk helicopter crew is anticipated to arrive Sunday morning from Aviation Training Center Mobile, Alabama, to further assist.
The Coast Guard has rescued more than 50 people in distress from rooftops, automobiles and trailers due to flooding in the Baton Rouge area, Saturday. Coast Guard aircrews have assisted the Baton Rouge Police Department, Baton Rouge Fire Department, Louisiana State Police, Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, Governor's Office of Homeland Security & Emergency Management, and the Louisiana National Guard in the assisting or rescuing of more than 300 people.
