UPDATE 4: SEARCH FOR MISSING BOATERS CONTINUES

MOBILE – The Coast Guard, Alabama Marine Resources, Alabama Marine Patrol and Mobile County Sheriff’s Department will continue the search for at least four mariners Monday.Crews searched throughout the night and morning, but due to adverse weather affecting the Mobile Bay area, rescue crews temporarily suspended their search at approximately 1:30 p.m. The search resumed shortly after 4 p.m."In a combined effort, our multi-agency responders have been searching within the entirety of Mobile Bay and its approaches,” said Capt. Duke Walker, Commander, Coast Guard Sector Mobile. “To quantify that with landmarks, we have been searching from Petit Bois Island to Gulf Shores, and our search area has even extended as far as 27 miles south of Dauphin Island. Our assets have covered more than 3,060 square miles since the onset of the case."The number of possible missing people was reduced to four after a survivor was located at his home Sunday evening. The person had registered for the regatta but had withdrew prior to the event and was unaware he was the subject of a search.Currently searching is:

  • An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans.
  • The 87-foot Coast Guard Cutter Coho.
  • A 45-foot response boat Medium from Coast Guard Station Dauphin Island.
  • One Alabama Law Enforcement Agency helicopter.
