What: Active shooter response exercise for law enforcement and South Florida first responders

When: Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m.

Where: Coast Guard Sector Miami, 100 MacArthur Causeway, Miami Beach, FL 33139

Coast Guard Base Miami Beach will host an active-shooter response exercise with local law enforcement agencies and regional first responders Saturday, 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.  There will be significant law enforcement, fire rescue and first responder presence at Base Miami Beach throughout the day and evening Saturday. During the exercise, simulated gunshots and police activity may be audible in the immediate vicinity.

Editor's note: Media will not be allowed to observe the exercise, but will be permitted on base for media availability with DHS Secretary Jeh Johnson at 1 p.m.  Credentialed media planning to attend the availability with Secretary Johnson must RSVP to the Coast Guard 7th District Public Affairs office at 305-415-6683 by 4 p.m. Friday.  All media will be required to show government-issued photo identification and affiliate-issued press credentials prior to being granted access to the base.  On the day of the event, media must be in place no later than 12:30 PM.  Media should arrive no later than 12:15 p.m. to ensure access.
