UPDATE: Coast Guard, other agencies respond to oil spill

July 26, 2016

NEW ORLEANS – The Coast Guard and other agencies are continuing to respond to a crude oil spill, Tuesday, that reportedly discharged from an abandoned flow line near Lake Grande Ecaille.

An estimated 4,200 gallons of crude oil was reportedly released from the pipeline which belongs to Hilcorp Energy. The source of the discharge was reported as secured, Monday.

Environmental Safety and Health, an oil spill response organization contracted by Hilcorp Energy, has deployed approximately 2,400 feet of hard containment boom to prevent further impact to the area. Skimmers and airboats are also being utilized in the recovery efforts.

Aircrews from Coast Guard Air Station New Orleans and Hilcorp Energy will continue to conduct over-flights to monitor oil recovery operations.

The Coast Guard, NOAA, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinators Office and Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries are also overseeing the response.

The cause of the incident is under investigation.
