BOSTON — Vermont State Police divers, using sonar, were able to locate and recover the body of the missing 60-year-old man Thursday morning.
The man went missing after being ejected from his boat during a two-boat collision.
The nearly 17-hour search covered about 32 square nautical miles within Malletts Bay on Lake Champlain.
Coast Guard Station Burlington, Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod, Vermont State Police, Colchester Police Department, Malletts Bay Fire Department, Colchester Rescue, Colchester Technical Rescue, U.S. Customs and Border Protection all joined the search effort.
“We were able to completely saturate the small search area due to the coordination between multiple federal, state and local responders,” said Kenneth Stuart, the command duty officer at Coast Guard Sector Northern New England’s command center.
The Colchester Sheriff’s department is investigating the collision.
