UPDATE: Coast Guard rescues one, still searching for another mariner off Lanai

HONOLULU — The Coast Guard rescued one man and continues searching for another after the 34-foot fishing vessel Munchkin ran aground on rocks approximately one mile west of Lanai, Hawaii, at 12:12 a.m. Friday.

An MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Barbers Point located and recovered one survivor in the water at 3:20 a.m. The survivor was taken to Memorial Hospital on Maui.

The Coast Guard Cutter Kiska, a 110-foot Island class patrol boat homeported in Hilo, a 45-foot Response Boat-Medium crew from Station Maui and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Air Station Barbers Point continue to search for the second man.

Current on-scene weather conditions are 10 mile per hour winds with 3-4 foot seas.

At 12:12 a.m., watchstanders at the Sector Honolulu Command Center received a mayday call over VHF radio channel 16 from fishing vessel Munchkin stating they ran aground off Lanai with two people aboard.
