*UPDATE* Coast Guard suspends search for missing person near Bridgeport, Conn.

NEW YORK – The Coast Guard suspended its search Monday evening for a person in the water in the vicinity of Seaside Park in Bridgeport, Connecticut.Coast Guard crews searched for nearly 24 hours and covered 78 square miles, south of Bridgeport.  During the search, the air temperature was 50 degrees with 25 knots of winds. Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound command center received a report of a person in the water at approximately 5:15 p.m. Sunday.It was reported that at approximately 4:30 p.m., two men entered the water from their 14-foot inflatable raft. One male was able to swim to shore but lost sight of the other person in the water.The missing man was reportedly not wearing a life jacket.The following Search-and-rescue crews assisted with the search:·      Coast Guard Station New Haven 45-foot Response Boat-Medium·      Coast Guard Station Eaton’s Neck 45-foot Response Boat-Medium·      Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter·      Bridgeport Police Department·      Fairfield Police Department·      Stratford Fire Department “After careful consideration, the Coast Guard and our multiple first responders in the Bridgeport area, decided to end our search for the missing person in the water,” said Capt. Edward Cubanski, commander Coast Guard Sector Long Island Sound. “Our heartfelt thoughts go out to the friends and family of the missing person during this difficult time.”
