USCG Academy Class Assists Child Development Center In Cape May

February 19, 2016

CAPE MAY, N.J. – Vice Adm. Sandra L. Stosz, deputy commandant for Mission Support at U.S. Coast Guard Headquarters in Washington, D.C., presented the Child Development Center on board the Coast Guard Training Center Cape May, a plaque, Thursday, which symbolizes a monetary donation from her Coast Guard Academy graduation class.

The 1982 graduates of the Academy donated $1,982 to the center to help replace or refurbish items that were damaged following a flood at the center last winter. The flood occurred over a holiday weekend and wasn't discovered for days. The center suffered the loss of nearly every book, toy, electronics, consumable and furniture in the building. As a result, the center was closed for a week and the children and staff were displaced to another building for a month while repairs were made.

The Child Development Center has the capability of caring for 89 children, most of which are from Coast Guard families, but is open to members of the DoD, federal employees and the general public.
