December 11, 2016

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – U.S. Coast Guard crews and a good Samaritan rescued four fishermen Sunday after their vessel sank near the St. John’s River inlet.

Three fishermen swam to the nearby jetty and one was picked up in the water by a good Samaritan.

Coast Guard Sector Jacksonville watch standers received notification over VHF radio that a 15-foot fishing vessel with four fishermen aboard suddenly sank at approximately 10:30 a.m. A Coast Guard 45-foot Response Boat – Medium crew, from Station Mayport, was in the area and arrived on scene within five minutes. The RBM crew located the three fishermen on the jetty and guided another Coast Guard 29-foot rescue boat in to rescue the fishermen.

The fishermen were transported to Mayport Boat Ramp and were reported to be in good condition.
