ATLANTIC CITY, N.J. — The Coast Guard rescued a jet skier who fell overboard Sunday in Manasquan Inlet near Point Pleasant Beach.

A helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City was flying over Manasquan Inlet while on a training flight when the aircrew's rescue swimmer noticed a jet ski in the water with no one aboard.

The helicopter crew scanned the inlet and spotted a man in the water near the jetty. As they circled around to make an approach, the jet ski slammed into the rocks as the man was getting pushed toward the rocks.

The helicopter crew got into position and used a hoist cable to lower the rescue swimmer. The rescue swimmer grabbed the man and they were hoisted out of the water and brought to a nearby beach where they were lowered.

A boat crew from Coast Guard Station Manasquan Inlet also responded to the incident.

"Between the weather conditions and the situation we were in — right by the jetty — he was in a really bad spot," said Petty Officer 3rd Class Billy Arrison, the rescue swimmer on the case. "It was only a matter of time until he would’ve washed up on the rocks next to his jet ski."
