PHILADELPHIA — The Coast Guard assisted two people after their boat ran aground Saturday, near Little Egg Inlet, Galloway, New Jersey.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Delaware Bay received a request for assistance from two people aboard a 36-foot Catamaran who were in need of assistance at 9:00 p.m.
Sector Delaware Bay watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast (UMIB) and then launched a 29-foot Response Boat-Small crew from Coast Guard Station Beach Haven and an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew from Coast Guard Air Station Atlantic City to assist.
The helicopter crew arrived on-scene and hoisted the two people into the helicopter and transported them to Air Station Atlantic City.
“Having properly functioning communication devices, like a fully charged cell phone in a waterproof container, and a marine-band radio help boaters in situations like this,” said Petty Officer 1st Class Christopher Brady, an operation duty officer at Air Station Atlantic City . “These boaters did the right thing, reaching out to the Coast Guard before their situation got any worse.”
