Affiliates
The APMA pursues academic, responsibility and empowerment partnerships that bring value to the maritime community and the public. For example, we help young mariners entering the workforce through a free membership program for students at California, Great Lakes, Maine, Massachusetts, the State University of New York Maritime, Texas Maritime and the United States Merchant Marine Academies. FINRA® - The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc.®
The APMA promotes safe and responsible investing for American Mariners, their families and the public for their future welfare and retirement. To accomplish this goal, we partnered with the FINRA Investor Education Foundation® which provides innovative research and educational projects aimed at segments of the investing public who could benefit from additional resources.
The Financial Industry Regulatory Authority, Inc.® (FINRA®) is the largest independent regulator of securities firms doing business with the public in the United States. FINRA’s core mission is to pursue investor protection and market integrity. FINRA is authorized by Congress to take action to ensure that investors are protected and conducts front-line work for the SEC under that agency’s oversight. FINRA regulates the activities of the U.S. securities industry and performs market regulation under contract for the New York Stock Exchange LLC (NYSE), the NASDAQ OMX Group, Inc. (NASDAQ) and other exchanges.
North American Marine Environment Protection Association
NAMEPA operates as an independent marine industry led non-profit and non-governmental organization that proactively demonstrates its commitment to preserving our seas for the world to enjoy by protecting the marine environment through educating seafarers, port communities, students and the general public about the need and strategies to preserve the Earth’s most important global resource and its inhabitants.
Ship Operations Cooperative Program
The APMA is a proud member of the Ship Operators Cooperative Program. The SOCP is a non-profit organization of maritime industry professionals to promote beneficial innovations in ship and other maritime operations through the identification, development, and application of new methods, tools, and technologies. SOCP’s overall objective is to improve the safety, productivity, efficiency, security, and environmental performance of U.S. vessel operations.

OBMG - Organization of Black Maritime Graduates, Inc.
Building Bright Futures Through Scholarships and Mentoring
The OBMG and APMA joined forces on our mutual goals to help individuals enter and find career success in the Maritime industry. The OBMG formed in 1994 to improve the education possibilities for African American and minority students by providing scholarships, financial assistance, mentoring, networking, professional development seminars and an education on the history and rich legacy of Blacks and Minorities in the maritime industry. The OBMG’s role has expanded to include community outreach, recruitment, industry and educational partnerships designed to increase minority participation in the maritime industry both ashore and afloat.
The OBMG is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. All donations are tax deductible and go entirely to the scholarships as OBMG members absorb all administrative costs. Since its inception the OBMG has awarded over 150 scholarships.
SUS - Services for the Underserved
To help our military veterans enter and sustain a career in the maritime industry, the APMA works with the Services for 
the Underserved (SUS). SUS trains and helps Veterans with initial maritime employment. The APMA takes it from there providing Veterans with free APMA membership, job/career services, and APMA benefit programs.
Founded in 1978, SUS is a nonprofit human services agency that offers a full spectrum of housing, employment and treatment programs for veterans. These high-impact programs directly address the integration needs of returning service members as they readjust to civilian life and recover from the invisible and physical wounds of war. SUS works with people to help them reach their individual potential. SUS believes that people need each other to achieve their goals, and creates a supportive environment where people can share ideas and information freely, to foster creativity, communication and collaboration.
