NEW ORLEANS--The Unified Command consisting of the Coast Guard, Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office and ECM Maritime Services was disestablished Monday following the successful repair of the damaged pipeline on Bay Long, Louisiana and assessments confirmed the majority of oil has been removed from the environment.
Representatives of the Coast Guard and the Louisiana Oil Spill Coordinator’s Office will continue oversight of ongoing oil cleanup efforts. Responders initially estimated 5,300 gallons of oil was discharged from the pipeline before it could be shut in, however contractors have recovered approximately 10,000 gallons of oily liquids.
Over 200 federal, state and contract personnel responded to this incident.
