BOSTON - A Coast Guard aircrew transported a 67-year-old woman Tuesday from Nantucket Hospital to Cape Cod Hospital.
Nantucket Hospital staff contacted watchstanders at the Coast Guard 1st District Command Center at about 9:30 a.m. requesting the patient transport after heavy weather grounded the local medical transport flight.
An HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircraft crew from Coast Guard Air Station Cape Cod transported the woman to Cape Cod Hospital. She was reported to be in critical condition.
"Expediency is our number one priority in situations such as these," said Petty Officer 1st Class Melissa Mathis, a watchstander in the Coast Guard command center. “Sensitive medical flights present unique challenges for our aircrews, but our end goal is always to save lives.”
