BUFFALO, New York – The U.S. Coast Guard, in collaboration with the Buffalo Police Department and U.S. Border Patrol, is conducting a half-day active shooter response exercise Thursday morning at Coast Guard Sector Buffalo, located at 1 Fuhrmann Boulevard in Buffalo.

Those nearby should expect to hear gunshot sounds from blank ammunition being fired, emergency announcements, and yelling from exercise players, and may notice increased presence of police officers and emergency personnel.

The exercise will focus on response to an active shooter incident using a unified approach. It is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. and will conclude at approximately 11:30 a.m. This exercise is intended to assess local response plans and identify ways to improve unified regional response capabilities.

The exercise is not open to the media or the public, but imagery and a press release will be distributed to media afterwards. Additionally, spokespersons will be available for on-camera interviews at Sector Buffalo from 12:30 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.
