Coast Guard, Calcasieu Parish Sheriff searching for missing swimmer in Lake Charles, Louisiana

March 29, 2016

LAKE CHARLES, La. — The Coast Guard and Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department are searching for a missing person Tuesday morning, who was last seen swimming more than 250 yards off the beach south of the I-10 bridge in Lake Charles.

Missing person is unknown and was described as being 5-feet-10-inches to 6-feet tall, weighing more than 200 pounds, having short black hair, wearing khaki cargo shorts and an orange shirt or no shirt.

At around 7:30 p.m. Monday, two people called the Calcasieu Parish Sheriff's Department reporting that they had seen a man swimming off the beach who drifted out of sight.

The sheriffs requested the Coast Guard's assistance and Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders diverted an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin aircrew and launched a Station Lake Charles 29-foot response boat crew to search the area.

The sheriffs ensured accountability for all of the vehicles in the nearby parking lot and are searching the lake with two boat crews using side-scanning sonar.
