JUNEAU, Alaska — A Coast Guard Station Ketchikan boat crew medevaced anailing mariner from fishing vessel SV Velvet 16 miles southeast ofKetchikan, Alaska, Tuesday.The boat crew transported the man to local emergency medical personnel inKetchikan.Coast Guard Sector Juneau received a request for help from a crewmemberaboard fishing vessel SV Velvet reporting the captain was experiencing amedical emergency. Sector Juneau launched a Station Ketchikan 45-footResponse Boat - Medium with an emergency medical technician aboard to assist."Our operational crews are ready to respond to emergency medical situationsat all times," said Vince Grochowski, a search and rescue controller atSector Juneau. "Providing ambulatory services to Alaska mariners forunpredictable injuries or illness falls under the Coast Guard's priority ofensuring the safety of life at sea."Weather on scene was reported as clear, calm and 36 degrees.
