GEORGETOWN, S.C. — A crew from Coast Guard Station Georgetown assisted three boaters in distress Saturday morning on the South Santee River, in the vicinity of the Santee Coastal Reserve.
Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center were notified of the situation at 6:42 a.m., by Charleston County’s Consolidated 911 Center. The initial report stated the 55-foot long yacht Seagull was taking on water while transiting in the vicinity of the Santee River delta. No injuries have been reported.
A crew aboard a 25-foot Response Boat-Small from Station Georgetown was launched to assist. Once on scene, the Station Georgetown crew climbed aboard the Seagull and assessed the situation. Upon inspection, Station Georgetown crewmembers identified a crack in the stern section of the yacht as the cause of the flooding. The level of water in the engine room was reported as approximately three feet high. Station Georgetown crewmembers brought a pump aboard and began dewatering the yacht. Once the flooding was under control, the Station Georgetown crew escorted the yacht to a pier at Hazzard Marine in Georgetown.
