WHEN: Friday, June 26, 2 p.m.PORTSMOUTH, Va. – U.S. Coast Guard Director of Operational Logistics (DOL) is scheduled to change command Friday in Portsmouth during a ceremony at Base Portsmouth.

Rear Adm. James M. Heinz will relieve Rear Adm. Thomas W. Jones as DOL commanding officer during the ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 2 p.m.

Jones, whose next assignment is deputy to the deputy commandant of Mission Support in Washington, has served as the commander for Director of Operational Logistics for two years. Prior to assuming that role, he served as the Coast Guard Director of Strategic Management and Doctrine in Washington.

Heinz most recently held the position of the Director of Reserve and Military Personnel. He received his commission after graduating from the Coast Guard Academy with a Bachelor of Science degree in civil engineering. He holds a Master of Science degree in civil engineering from the University of Illinois and is a registered professional engineer in the State of Washington.

DOL delivers regional mission support services to operational units through a network of 14 Coast Guard bases in key locations across the country with more than 4,000 active duty, reserve and civilian personnel. DOL provides a 24/7 mission-support watch, embedded in the Atlantic Area Command Center, to effectively facilitate and coordinate timely support to Coast Guard assets underway or deployed at home or overseas. DOL coordinates an enterprise-wide, deployable-logistics program and partners with federal, state, public and private sector stakeholders to ensure a whole-of-government approach while addressing maritime logistics support and operational threats around the globe.
