Coast Guard, FDNY assist sailboat taking on water near Sandy Hook, N.J.

NEW YORK ­­­­­­­­­­­­­­–– A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook rescue crew and New York Fire Department Marine 8 rescue crew assist a 30-foot sailboat taking on water in Sandy Hook Bay, Friday.

At approximately 8:30 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector New York’s Command Center received a distress call via VHF-Channel 16 from a 30-foot sailboat stating their vessel was taking on water.

A Coast Guard Station Sandy Hook rescue crew aboard a 29-foot Response Boat Small was diverted to the scene to assist the distressed sailing vessel.

The Station Sandy Hook rescue crew arrived on scene at 9:10 p.m., and took the 30-foot sailboat in tow.

A New York Fire Department Marine 8 vessel also arrived on scene and during the transit to a safe haven, both the Station rescue crew and FDNY rescue crew transferred pumps to the pleasure craft to assist with dewatering the vessel.

The sailing vessel was moored at Atlantic Highland Marina.

No injuries or pollution were reported.
