Coast Guard helicopter crew medevacs injured boater

June 14, 2015

CHARLESTON, S.C. — A Coast Guard helicopter crew medevaced a recreational boater, Sunday, in the vicinity of Cape Romain National Wildlife Refuge.

The patient, a 50-year-old man, was reported to have suffered injuries to his neck and arm.

Charleston Consolidated Dispatch notified Watchstanders in the Coast Guard Sector Charleston command center of the situation at approximately 1 p.m. The initial report stated two people aboard a jet ski ran into rocks off of Cape Island, ejecting them both. The man was injured, but his wife was unharmed and was able to call for help.

A crew aboard an MH-65 Dolphin helicopter from Coast Guard Air Facility Charleston was diverted to respond. Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the boater. He was then transported to Medical University of South Carolina for further evaluation. South Carolina Department of Natural Resources personnel located the wife and took her to MUSC to be with her husband.
