LOS ANGELES — The Coast Guard is investigating a report of an oil spill in the Los Angeles Harbor, Sunday.
Watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach command center received a report of an unknown quantity of oil coming from the cargo ship, Istra Ace, in the Cerritos channel near berth 212 and across the east basin to berth 192, also crossing near the Vincent Thomas Bridge and going up to berths 200 Bravo and 200 Yankee.
Coast Guard investigators from Sector Los Angeles/Long Beach along with members of California Fish and Wildlife, Los Angeles Port Police and Los Angeles County Fire are currently investigating the report.
The Coast Guard has also issued a safety zone restricting vessel traffic in the affected area.
The amount of oil is unknown at this time. It has been reported that the responsible party has contracted a response team to assist in efforts to contain the oil.
