Coast Guard lifts vessel draft restrictions at Oregon Inlet, NC

WILMINGTON, N.C. — The Coast Guard lifted restrictions and enforcement of the regulated navigation area Thursday at Oregon Inlet between Bodie and Pea Islands.The captain of the port for Sector North Carolina lifted vessel draft restrictions and enforcement of the regulated navigation area at the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge in Oregon Inlet as outlined in 33 Code of Federal Regulations 165.520.  The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) recently dredged an unmarked channel in the shoaled area of the navigation channel in the vicinity of the Herbert C. Bonner Bridge. Mariners are encouraged to obtain the most recent USACE Wilmington District hydrographic survey information, centerline waypoints and controlling depth at: http://www.saw.usace.army.mil/Missions/Navigation/HydrographicSurveys.aspx Mariners are advised to use caution when navigating Oregon Inlet.  The navigational aids in Oregon Inlet and Oregon Inlet Channel are not charted and may not be marking best water due to continually shifting shoals.  Consult the Local Notice to Mariners for the Coast Guard 5th District to obtain the latest positions and statuses of aids to navigation at:http://www.navcen.uscg.gov/?pageName=lnmDistrict&region=5  The Coast Guard will continue to monitor the conditions of the waterway and update the regulated navigation area as necessary.  For any questions or concerns, please contact the Sector North Carolina Command Center in Wilmington at 910-343-3880.
