ELIZABETH CITY, N.C. — Coast Guard Base Elizabeth City personnel and local agencies are scheduled to hold an active-shooter response exercise Friday at 8 a.m. at Base Elizabeth City.
The exercise will involve simulated active shooters, police, building sweeps and medical response, followed by training for first responders.
Agencies involved in the exercise include:
- Base Elizabeth City Police Department
- Pasquotank County Sheriff's Office
- Elizabeth City Police Department
- Elizabeth City Fire Department
- Elizabeth City EMS
Traffic into and out of Base Elizabeth City may be disrupted until 11 a.m. Citizens in the area may see an increased law enforcement presence.
"The most effective way to prepare for an emergency like an active shooter situation is through training and exercises with our community partners," said Cmdr. Bruce C. Brown, the commanding officer of Base Elizabeth City. "Joint-training with our local partner law enforcement officers, fire departments and local EMS is an invaluable tool to prepare people to react to and respond to an active threat and prevent loss of life."
