Coast Guard, local agencies rescue 2 from capsized kayaks near Paradise Cay

SAN FRANCISCO — A husband and wife were rescued after their kayaks capsized near Paradise Cay Saturday afternoon.Coast Guard Sector San Francisco watchstanders were notified at 5:48 p.m. Saturday by a good Samaritan that two kayakers capsized and were in the water with their black lab near Paradise Cay in Tiburon.A Coast Guard Station San Francisco response boatcrew was on patrol and diverted to assist with the search and rescue.  They coordinated the rescue with Marin County Sheriff and the San Rafael Police Department, as well as the Tiburon Fire Protection District, which responded to an Urgent Marine Information Broadcast issued by the Coast Guard.

The Marin County Sheriff's Office quickly located the husband and wife and their black lab, successfully recovering them from the water. The rescued husband and wife were both wearing wetsuits, but their life jackets remained on the kayaks. Neither showed signs of injury."The 4th of July weekend is a busy time on San Francisco Bay with a lot of recreational boaters enjoying the holiday. In this situation, the good Samaritans on land were our eyes on the water. Their reports enabled the responders to quickly locate and rescue the distressed kayakers and their dog," said Lt. Wes Geyer, a command duty officer at Sector San Francisco.
