SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 78-year-old man from a cruise ship approximately 115 miles southwest of San Diego, Friday.
At 9:17 a.m., Friday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a report from the crew of the cruise ship Ruby Princess that a 78-year-old male passenger was experiencing symptoms of gastrointestinal bleeding.
Sector San Diego's flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Sector MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter was launched, arrived on scene, then safely hoisted the man.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at 12:38 p.m., where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
He was taken to Scripps Memorial Hospital, in La Jolla. He was in stable condition.
