SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 66-year-old man from a recreational vessel approximately 40 miles south of Ensenada, Mexico, Thursday.
At approximately 3:45 p.m., Thursday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a request for assistance from the crew of the recreational vessel Headquarters II via marine-band VHF channel 16 that a 66-year-old male passenger had woken with the left side of his body numb.
Sector San Diego's flight surgeon recommended that the patient be transported to a hospital within the United States and be admitted for treatment of stroke-like symptoms.
The Coast Guard notified Mexican authorities, who approved the flight into Mexican airspace.
A Sector MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched, arrived on scene and safely hoisted the man.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 6:15 p.m., where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
He was taken to UCSD Medical Center. His condition is unknown.
On-scene weather was 12-knot winds, four-foot seas and 10 miles of visibility.
