MIAMI — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 58-year-old woman off a cruise ship approximately 84 miles northeast of Grand Turk, Turks and Caicos Islands.

Watchstanders in the Coast Guard 7th District command center were notified of the situation at 11:12 a.m., Thursday, by a crewmember aboard the Norwegian Getaway. The report stated the woman was suffering symptoms of pneumonia. A Coast Guard flight surgeon was consulted and recommended the medevac.

A crew aboard an MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Coast Guard Air Station Clearwater, Florida, operating out of Great Inagua, Bahamas, was launched to assist. Once on scene, the helicopter crew hoisted the woman and transported her to Providenciales Airport in Turks and Caicos Islands. Once there, the woman was transferred to an air ambulance crew, to be taken stateside for further care.
