
KODIAK, Alaska — A Coast Guard Air Station Sitka MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew medevaced an injured logger from a logging camp on Cleveland Peninsula near Ketchikan, Alaska, Wednesday.
The Jayhawk helicopter crew landed on the beach, transferred the injured logger onto their aircraft and transported him to awaiting emergency medical services in Ketchikan.
Coast Guard 17th District command center watchstanders received notification of a 47-year-old male who was hit by a falling tree at the logging camp. The duty flight surgeon was briefed and recommended the medevac.
“Our operational crews are ready to respond to emergency medical situations on both land and sea,” said Lt. Cmdr. Tad Drozdowski, command duty officer, 17th District. “We train regularly in order to safely and efficiently transport the sick and injured to a higher level of care when necessary.”
Weather on scene was reported as 6 mph winds with a light rain and snow mix.
