SAN DIEGO — The Coast Guard medically evacuated a 43-year-old man from a fishing vessel approximately 110 miles southeast of Point Loma, in San Diego, Sunday.
At approximately 8:30 a.m., Sunday, watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector San Diego received a request for assistance from the crew of the sport-fishing vessel Searcher that a 43-year-old male passenger was experiencing heart-attack like symptoms while fishing.
Sector San Diego's flight surgeon recommended that the patient be medically evacuated and taken to a hospital for emergency care.
A Sector MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter crew launched, arrived on scene, then safely hoisted the man at 10:50 a.m.
The Jayhawk crew returned to Sector San Diego at approximately 11:40 a.m., where he was transferred to awaiting EMS.
He was taken to UCSD Medical Center, Hillcrest, in San Diego. His condition is unknown.
